Welcome!

Oh, hello there! Welcome to my new website and the blog that goes with it! I’m glad you’re here, and I hope you find something that makes your visit worthwhile. Over the coming weeks and months I’ll be sharing my newest work, and talking about the things that I’m passionate about. For sure you can expect some travel diaries, an occasional gear review, and probably some attempts at humor that may or may not land as intended.

Northern Mockingbird questioning what I’m doing in “his” yard.

First things first: I feel like its relevant to describe my perspective as a photographer, and what I’m hoping to get from this experience. I’ve been interested in photography for a long time, since my brother let me use his manual Pentax SLR back in the 90s, and that interest has stayed with me and grown into a passion as I’ve grown older. Photography is my creative outlet; the polar opposite of my day job as a software engineer. My favorite subjects are found in nature and the outdoors: landscapes, birds and flowers. During the recent pandemic that is finally nearing its end, I found great enjoyment just sitting in my backyard taking photos of the birds that would visit my feeders. And now that travel is once again becoming an option, I can’t wait to get out there and experience new places again. It’s a huge world out there, and I’d really like to see as much of it as I possibly can.

The About page of this site has more on my background and all that, while the Galleries page is my portfolio if you will: the images I’m proudest of, and the images that show where I’ve come from and where I’m going as a photographer. At some point in the future I may attempt to sell some of my work here. In the meantime if you are interested in purchasing any of my work please email me at info@joelwhitlockphotography.com with the title of the photo, desired print size, etc. and I’ll be happy to help.

I think this is a good place to wrap this up for now. If you’ve made it this far, thank you so much for your interest. I know there are a million sites out there on the internet scientifically designed to entertain you, so the fact that you came here to look at some pretty pictures and read a story or two is really humbling. Feel free to leave a comment below if you want, I’d love to hear from you!
